Some journeys begin with a passport. Mine began with a refusal to live anything less than the life I knew I was meant for.
I'm Tatyana Pechiva—a native New Yorker, entrepreneur, plus-size model, and proud woman of Caribbean and Czech heritage. I've never been someone who waits for permission to live boldly. Fashion, creativity, and travel have always shaped the way I see the world, teaching me to embrace my individuality, trust my instincts, and never be afraid to take up space wherever life takes me.
I've always believed that living a beautiful, soft, abundant life isn't something I have to earn.
It's my birthright.
That belief has guided every decision I've made. It gave me the courage to move through the world fearlessly, to dream bigger than my circumstances, and to build a life that feels authentic to who I am instead of who the world expected me to be.
Travel became one of the greatest expressions of that freedom.
I've always had a fierce spirit and an endless curiosity about the world. Every time I boarded a plane, I felt more alive, more liberated, and more connected to myself. Travel didn't change who I was—it gave me the space to become even more of who I'd always been. It reminded me that the world is full of possibility, and that the most beautiful life is often waiting just outside your comfort zone.
When my 40th birthday approached, there was never a question about where I wanted to be.
I knew I wanted to be in Africa.
Booking a one-way ticket wasn't spontaneous. It was deeply intentional. My journey began in Ghana and Nigeria, where I spent months reconnecting with my African ancestry, honoring the generations who came before me, and embracing a spiritual connection that had been calling me home for years.
By the time I arrived in Tanzania and Zanzibar, something inside me had shifted.
Africa didn't give me my confidence.
It reflected it back to me.
For the first time, I felt like every part of who I was—my identity, my heritage, my spirituality, my love for beauty, adventure, and culture—had finally found one place where it all belonged.
That's when Safari Chic was born.
Not because I wanted to start another travel company.
But because I wanted to give other people the opportunity to experience the same freedom, wonder, and connection that travel has given me throughout my life.
I wanted to create the kind of experiences that make people feel more alive. More present. More curious. More connected—to the world, to different cultures, and sometimes, even to themselves.
Today, every itinerary we create is rooted in that same belief: that travel has the power to expand your perspective, awaken your spirit, and remind you just how extraordinary life can be when you're willing to say yes to it.
